An Introduction to Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) is coming to a device near you! And in a very short time using AR will be as commonplace as Google and Wikipedia are today. Ditto offers a non-life threatening introductory experience of AR.

AR is simply reality with something added, that you can only see through a device (phone or glasses, etc).

If you didn't have a device helping you it would be a "hologram" (but we aren't quite there yet), and if your view is completely replaced by a headset (Oculus Rift, etc) or a dome, then you are in "virtual reality".

Ditto offers everyone who purchases a 3D printed model from us, the chance to also view themselves in augmented reality and show that mage to all your friends and family. You don't need to carry your printed figure around with you to show it off!

And even if you haven't yet purchased a 3D print from us you can still download the app and see how AR works with a couple of our pre-loaded images.

To view an image in AR all you need is an AR viewer (our dittokiwi app will do nicely) and something to point at. The app recognises certain images as "triggers" and will display some augmented information.. In the example above the app recognised the back of my business card as a trigger (because we told it to) and displays Mike the cyclist.

Click the button below for more info on how to get the app and how to use it.

Welcome to the future...
